Last night in Hakodate, we wanted to make it special, and Kira’s Kaiseki was our pick. Tucked away on a hill overlooking Hakodate Bay, Kira wasn’t just another meal; it was an experience we were all pumped for. We strolled through the gate and bam!—that ocean view was a showstopper. They took us upstairs to a private room where our kaiseki dinner awaited, and let me tell you, it was everything we hoped for and more. The meal was a cool mix of East meets West, and the transition from a sun-soaked horizon to a twinkling night view was just stellar.
Kira truly lived up to its name. It sparkled not just through its windows but in each dish served. The place had a vibe that made you feel like you were in for a treat the moment you walked in. We were all excited to dive into what was promised to be a parade of culinary delights, especially with the buzz around their fresh, seasonal ingredients.
The dinner kicked off with some tuna sashimi that was out of this world. Topped with yuba (tofu skin), it was a piece of art. The tuna tasted like it jumped straight out of the sea onto our plates, fresh and full of flavor. That yuba added just the right texture to make each bite interesting. This dish wasn’t just food; it was a tribute to the sea.
Next up was the fried ainame fish. Crunchy on the outside, soft and juicy inside—exactly how you’d want your fish to be. But what really took it from good to great was the dipping sauce. It had this tangy, umami flavor that turned each bite into a flavor explosion. We couldn’t stop raving about it.
Then came the showstopper—the legendary red king crab, known locally as taraba-gani. It wasn’t just delicious; it looked incredible on the plate. The crab meat was sweet, tender, and perfectly cooked. Each bite was a mix of luxury and comfort, kind of like being hugged by flavor. The restaurant offers the wide-rage of price options in their menu.

As the sun set and the city lights began to sparkle, the ambiance shifted from beautiful to downright enchanting. It was the perfect backdrop for our last night in town—romantic, peaceful, and just a bit glamorous.
