I’ve always found Yomiuri Land to be a popular destination for couples, groups of friends, and families, ever since I was a teenager. Located just a 35-minute ride from the heart of Shinjuku, I consider Yomiuri Land to be Tokyo’s greatest escapade. It’s more than just an amusement park; it’s a year-round festival of fun and learning, proudly standing as Tokyo’s largest amusement park. I particularly love its diverse attractions that cater to all ages, making it an ideal destination for both children and adults. Additionally, for those who would like to splurge on a full day at an amusement park, Sanrio Puroland is just about 30 minutes away.
The Yomiuri Land park transforms with the seasons, offering cherry blossoms in spring and an aquatic haven in summer with Pool WAI, featuring a South Pacific vibe complete with palm trees and a beach-like shoreline. Winter brings the “Jewellumination,” a grand-scale illumination in the Kanto region, lighting up the park in dazzling jewelry-colored lights. Enjoy breathtaking nighttime shows, including a magnificent fountain display, the “Starlight Bandit” roller coaster zipping through the night sky, and a Ferris wheel offering panoramic views of the city’s nightscape.
Yomiuri Land’s unique “Goodjoba!!” area is a tribute to Japanese “monozukuri” (craftsmanship), showcasing industries like automotive, food, fashion, stationery, and space. This isn’t just an exhibition; it’s an interactive learning experience. Visitors can delve into the manufacturing processes behind everyday items and even participate in workshops, making Goodjoba!! an enriching addition to any family trip in Tokyo.
Pool WAI is a summer paradise at Yomiuri Land, offering a range of pools from classic to diving, and not forgetting the thrilling waterslides! With five pools and three waterslides, there’s no shortage of aquatic fun.
Yomiuri Land boasts over 40 attractions, ranging from adrenaline-pumping roller coasters to family-friendly rides. Notably, children as young as three years old and 90cm tall can enjoy many of these attractions, ensuring fun for even the youngest visitors.
Opened in 1964 in Inagi, Tokyo, Yomiuri Land is not just about rides; it’s a cultural landmark. It’s home to the Yomiuri Giants Stadium and features a bath house aimed at attracting senior visitors. Operated by the Yomiuri Group, the park reflects a rich history blended with modern entertainment.
The park’s culinary offerings range from fast food to full meals, perfect for recharging after a day of fun. Additionally, the park houses a variety of shops selling original stationery, unique souvenirs, Studio Ghibli merchandise, and Giants goods, ensuring that visitors can take a piece of Yomiuri Land home with them.
Attractions Galore
Yomiuri Land’s 44 attractions include the famous Bandit roller coaster, the Space Factory, and the Spin Runway. Visitors can also enjoy the Wan Wan Coaster Wandit, suitable for all family members. The park is adorned with about 1,000 cherry blossoms in spring, and in summer, the Pool WAI (Water Amusement Island) offers an additional aquatic adventure.
These are only a small part of the attractions Yomiuri Land offers. In summary, this part is not just an amusement park; it’s a multifaceted destination where fun, education, culture, and relaxation converge. Whether you’re a thrill-seeker, a family on vacation, or someone looking to explore the facets of Japanese culture and craftsmanship, Yomiuri Land promises an unforgettable experience.
